参赛资格

open to amateur, student and professional industrial designers who are 14 years or older at the time of entry, however residents of the following countries are ineligible to participate: Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Sudan and Syria. Students do not need to be enrolled in an industrial design program to participate and student entries can be submitted in any category, even if the design is in research or corporately funded.
Employees of Microsoft Corporation, IDSA and their immediate family members (sibling, child, parent, spouse or anyone living in the same household as an employee) are not eligible to enter.
Employees of organizations and students at schools represented on the jury may not participate in the competition. Judges will be named on or around April 14th, 2006.
Multiple people may collaborate on an entry (so long as all meet the eligibility requirements stated above), however, only a single person may submit an entry and the prize will only be awarded to that person. Microsoft and the IDSA are not responsible for any decisions regarding re-distribution of prize money within a team.
Entries may be sponsored by corporations, but no entries may be in production during the course of the competition.

设计类别
Designs for practically any Windows-based PC design concept may be entered; however challenges of manufacturability should be considered. Entrants may submit one unique entry per category (for a total of 4 entries per person) based on primary role/benefit of the design as related to the digital lifestyle challenge and reinforced in the essay questions:
Personal Productivity (at work, at home or on the go)
Entertainment
Communication & Mobility (at work, at home or on the go)
Living and Lifestyle**
**Living and lifestyle category provides for a more free-form exploration, reducing emphasis on manufacturability as judging criteria to focus on more forward-looking scenarios.

评审
All eligible entries will be reviewed based on the criteria listed below, each to be weighted equally. Each entry will be scored on its own rating sheet based on how well it meets the criteria of design excellence described below. Those entries which in the judge's sole opinion best meet the criteria listed below will be named Finalists and posted online for public voting.
Innovation: is the design new and unique?
User Experience/Interaction: in what ways does the design make the PC easier to use?
Aesthetics: how does the appearance enhance the emotional appeal of the product?
Technical ability: how is the design enhanced with new technologies?
Ecology: how is the design environmentally responsible?

Other judging considerations:
Manufacturability including thermal cooling and noise reduction
Market viability

Any Peripheral component design concepts included with an entry (e.g. Cell Phone, Digital Media Receiver, Printer, Portable Media Player, etc) will be considered during the judging process to help aid in answering the challenge statement.

The judging is blind: the designers, their names and the names of their consulting firms or schools may not appear anywhere in the entry kit other than the Design Credit List.doc. Failure to abide by this rule results in immediate disqualification.

The decisions of the judges are final and binding in all matters related to this contest. The judges reserve the right to not award a prize if in their sole opinion no entries meet the minimum standards of the criteria listed below.

奖金
A total of five (5) winners will be selected from among qualified entries in all categories:
Judge's Award 1st, 2nd & 3rd place- Prize $25,000 US, $15,000 US, $10,000 US

By entering, participants release and hold harmless Microsoft Corporation and its respective subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising and promotions agencies, prize suppliers, and all of their employees, officers, directors, shareholder's and agents from any and all liability or any injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with this Competition, the use of any entry, or the acceptance or use of any prize won.

Microsoft shall not have any obligation to limit or restrict the assignment of such persons or to pay royalties for any work resulting from the use of residuals. However, this paragraph shall not be deemed to grant to Microsoft a license under the Entrants' copyrights or patents. The intellectual rights of the resulting designs remain the property of those directly responsible for the design and its submission. Microsoft retains an exclusive first right of refusal on acquisition of any of the resulting designs submitted into the competition at negotiated rate. The use of any automated launching or entry software or any other mechanical or electronic means that permits the participant to automatically enter or vote repeatedly (as solely determined by Sponsor) is prohibited. If for any reason this contest is not capable of running as planned due to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, uploads of malicious files or viruses, or any other causes beyond the control of Microsoft Corporation which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Contest, Microsoft Corporation reserves the right at its sole discretion, to disqualify any entry or any individual who tampers with the entry or voting process, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest and select winners using all eligible, non-suspect entries and/or votes received as of the date of termination. Microsoft assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries. Microsoft is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or telephone lines, computer on-line systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any e-mail or entry to be received on account of technical problems, human error or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any Web site, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to participant's or any other person's computer relating to or resulting from participation in this contest or downloading any materials in this Contest. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEB SITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, MICROSOFT CORPORATION RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES OR OTHER REMEDIES FROM ANY SUCH PERSON (S) RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ATTEMPT TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
