请问你在AIVA预科的工作是什么？

As the Course Director of Jewellery Foundation, my current work  at AIVA is  based on the designing of a Contemporary Jewellery Foundation Course for the academic year 2008, the setting up of a jewellery workshop in the department, holding teaching lessons either on a group or an individual basis and the designing of several workshops, suitable for the public.

I consider my own position in the course to be a guide for the students who not only teaches them the main basic making skills but also helps them to form an open minded view on jewellery and to assist them in exploring their interests and strengths.

作为AIVA珠宝设计专业的课程主管，我在AIVA的职责是负责设计2007年和2008年的珠宝设计的大学基础课程，建立珠宝设计工作室，并进行对内部学生的课程指导和对公众开放的短期课程的授课。作为学生的向导，不仅需要教授他们基本的技能，还要帮助他们建立开阔的眼界，支持他们在首饰设计领域找到自己的创作根基。

能谈谈什么是当代首饰设计吗？

Contemporary jewellery today is not, like many people believe, the jewellery that can be bought in ordinary jewellery shops. The ideas of the new jewellery are not restricted to materials like gold, silver and precious stones. Nowadays, any material can found in jewellery, showing new characteristics and peculiarities, depending on the intentions of the maker. Next to formal studies, material research, colour studies and technical innovations, jewellery can also be used as a transmitter of personal expression. It must be considered as an independent art form. The limitations of being pure body adornment must give way to new artistic thoughts, expressing themselves in explorations concerning the narrative, functionality, technical approaches, wearability, durability, installations, cross-overs etc. to the point of questioning the necessity of the body itself. Jewellery has become a tool of communication and exchange that can simply adorn the body but also dares to show statements and convictions.

现今的当代首饰设计已经超越了人们一般认为的从普通首饰店里购买的产品。首饰设计的创意方式已经不仅仅在材料上局限于金银等贵金属和各类宝石，任何原材料都可能在首饰设计中出现，以体现创作者赋予作品的新颖独特的个性。因此，在正统的专业学习以外，材料研究、色彩研究和技术革新都需要涉猎。同时，首饰设计也已经成为了一种独立的艺术形式，来传达个人的情感。所以，珠宝作为单纯着装配饰的角色必定会让位给一种综合性的新艺术思想，其中包含了叙述性的自我表达方式、功能性、可用性、耐久性、创新技术等诸多跨领域的知识。它已经成为了一种交流的媒介，不仅可以适用于穿着的需求，也具备独立表达思想的能力。

你觉得中国学生和西方学生的区别是什么？

Students are students, some are good and some are not, there is not a big difference.
其实差不多，总有比较优秀的和比较保守的，这个在西方也一样，没有太大的区别。

对于想学习首饰设计专业的学生来说，你觉得他们最需要学习的是什么？

They need to learn to be brave enough to realize their ideas and look outside the box.
他们应该学会勇于实践自己的想法，放开自己的眼光去更广阔的世界里。

能给即将出国学习的学生一点建议吗？

Try to get familiar with the new culture and mingle!
尝试着熟悉新的文化，并且融入其中。
